Insert quippy line here
In a rare twist, your bullshit hunters are off this week, so we’ll make this quick and dirty.
This week, we dropped the final two episodes of Witchgrass: A Small Town Investigation. We welcome you to send us a message with your questions, speculations and insights. In the nearish future, we will revisit the case for a post-release episode addressing your questions and theories. You can listen on Spotify, Apple, and Amazon Music.
What We Wrote
To all subscribers, Justin brought us Pump Up the Panic. We revisit the moral panics that have shaped modern attitudes and the contradictions they’ve sewn into our belief systems. This one has a bit of attitude, I think you’ll want to read.
To our paid subscribers, Kennedy brings you an autopsy report in Death of the Discourse. A slightly satirical look at how discourse has evolved in the 2010s and 2020s. This one hits all inboxes next week.
What Justin Recommends
Movie | Blair Witch (2016) - This film, on Shudder, is not the same as our beloved 1999 The Blair Witch Project, but a sequel. Directed by Adam Wingard (You’re Next, The Guest, Death Note), this instalment follows a young crew of college students as one of them attempts to find his missing sister. Rumoured, of course, to be another victim of whatever lurks in the Black Hills Forest of Maryland. You’ll never stop me from watching Blair Witch movies, and this one is a distant second from the original while being a universe away from any other sequels. Give it a shot.
Podcast | Well That Was Scary by Freddie Prinze Jr. and John Lee Brody - In this dark horse of a horror podcast, Freddie and John prove to be some of the most thoughtful, analytical and entertaining horror film aficionados on the airwaves. In their Halloween special, they cover how The Simpsons broke new ground with their Halloween special in 1990 and made horror fun for the whole family.
Book | Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan - Fast, frolicking, and fun, this book is sure to find its way into any nerd’s top 10 list of all time. A group of friends, a curious bookshop, a quest… and Google, all make an appearance in this absolute page turner that I don’t want to give a single detail away about. Go buy this book and enjoy!
Until next time,
Your Bullshit Hunting Crew
