For the Weekend Warriors, Weirdos & Whackjobs - Issue #32
I'm someone else's lawyer, not a coroner, Jim.
A busy week of fraud hunting, code slinging, story writing and investigating at Permanent Record HQ. If you missed it (first off, for shame), our intrepid Some Lawyer wrote an excellent piece on verification, genealogy and the value of dogged research in: He’s Dead, Jim. Put your feet up and give it a read; it’s fuckin’ great.
What Justin Watched This Week
Moloch - (Amazon Prime/Shudder)
This is one creepy-ass Dutch horror film, y’all, and since I can’t do it any better justice, from IMDB:
“Betriek lives on the edge of a bog in the Netherlands. When she and her family are attacked by a stranger one night, Betriek sets out to find an explanation. She discovers that something is chasing her.”
Yeah, something is chasing her. Yup. I absolutely loved the rural setting, the wisps of fog constantly clinging to everything near the bog where most of the film is set. The uncanny visitors, the sense of dread.
Wear plastic underwear, for there are moments where your insides might become your outsides. If you want a great Dutch-language horror, get after this one ASAP.
We hope you kicked as much ass as we did this week, and we hope you rest just as much, too.
