For the Weekend Warriors, Weirdos & Whackjobs - Issue #141
One day closer to Halloween
We meet again.
This week, out to everyone was The Eyes of Laura Mars. The anticipated second part to a Some Lawyer serious, a favourite here on BSH. When violence breaks out, people want an explanation. In 1979, that explanation was The Warriors. This week’s piece revisits several of the film’s most infamous incidents. Instead of decades of retellings, we’re taken through reporting and courtroom testimony to find the evidence that may not support the legend.
Out to paid subscribers, it’s a fun one that’s also not so fun. Justin brings you Coal Conjuring: Summoning Earth’s Demons. Coal fires, haunted houses, Silent Hill and AI, oh my. A journey through data points that may not seem connected until you start pulling on them a little harder. This week’s piece takes you through burning mines beneath Pennsylvania to the enormous environmental cost of artificial intelligence.
Also out into paid inboxes was a new episode of Justin and Kennedy’s audio series, High Spirits. This week, we follow up on our research on An Environmental Appraisal of “Haunted Houses” with more intriguing research into phenomena that may look paranormal on the surface but have a different explanation entirely. Join us for a look at the Philip Experiment of 1972.
What Kennedy Recommends
It’s Summerween season to me.
In light of that, I’ve been trying to find movies with the vibe of “I’m a kid at summer camp pre-technology”, and this one delivered on that.
Like all good teenage movies, we’ve got bikes, we’ve got tree houses, and we’ve got murder. Davey Armstrong, neighbourhood paper boy (of course), begins to suspect that his neighbour, a friendly and well-liked police officer, is a serial killer. At first, his friends don’t believe his theory, but when a kid goes missing, his three friends help Davey launch a daring investigation.
I watched this on Amazon Prime, but I believe it’s also available on Shudder. Check out your streaming services to see!
Crack a cold can of your choice and enjoy the weekend.
Until next time,
Your Bullshit Hunting Crew
