Pop into the rabbit hole
From our sweatsuits to yours, how ya’ll doing out there? We hope you’re well.
This week, out to everyone was a Some Lawyer original, Where are my keys, I lost my phone. The twenty-year grace period in which everyone politely pretended text messages might simply vanish has ended. “Lost” phones and missing messages are not permissible, and preservation means phones, too, even personal ones.
In the inboxes of paid subscribers was Soft Launching a Lie from Kennedy. As social media commentators and grifters realize that yelling into the void isn’t working the way it once did, messaging is getting softer. What were once bold claims are rolling in as curious questions that beg you to “do your own research.” Subscribe to the paid tier today to unlock articles early.
Also in paid inboxes is High Spirits Volume 6, where two tired investigators swap skepticisms over real encounters with the other realm and discuss gangstalking. Next week, we’ll be back with more harrowing tales.
What Kennedy Recommends
I remember the first time I saw To Catch a Predator. I was probably 12, and it was playing on TV. I was never much of a computer kid. We had one desktop out in the open in a four-person household, and mostly I just wanted to play the occasional CD-ROM that came inside a cereal box. The idea of chatting with strangers online was something that had never really occurred to me, and something I didn’t actually know how to do. Seeing these men connecting with decoys that were supposedly my age made my head spin.
These days, I can’t watch that type of content. Between case work and my confusion about whether the media helps or hinders these situations, watching Chris Hansen pop out from behind a curtain makes me feel a bit sick.
The other night, I pressed play on this documentary anyway. The film explores the rise and fall of the show and features interviews with some of the former decoys, clips, and raw footage from the series. It dissects some of the nuances that the reality show itself couldn’t and doesn’t explore. Worth a watch. Available on Paramount+.
Cold winds and storms are supposed to be blowing through many parts of Canada and the US, so if that’s you, stay warm and cozy out there. If it’s not, embrace the sunshine for us.
Take care,
