For the Weekend Warriors, Weirdos & Whackjobs - Issue #54
It's warm in this here inbox, unwrap us
Due to Justin’s dereliction of duty, we have our favourite lawyer,
pumping up the jam with: Interrogate everything. Bore everybody. Win in the end. Walking through one of our favourite strategies, she details how you can lay traps, pour kerosene—or whatever flavour of case destruction analogy you prefer—just simply by interrogating everything and boring everyone in the process. What Justin Recommends
It’s easy to get behind a story or case that is a wrongful conviction, or a clear injustice. There’s not much for mental friction when we are all able to get on the same side. But what happens when we’re faced with a story like Nikolas Cruz, the Parkland shooter?
What most people may not realize, is that these are the types of cases that public defenders, defense attorneys and investigators are most commonly faced with. It’s more about sentence mitigation, not guilt or innocence. It’s complex, it can make you feel a certain way—and that’s the point. There’s always empathy to be found in these stories and you often don’t have to look that hard.
Another Not Guilty talks through the case with attorneys who worked on behalf of Nikolas Cruz to save his life from a death sentence, one that many people would have supported. I encourage you to have a listen and allow yourself to be challenged.
Thank you to everyone who has subscribed, sent words of encouragement this week and for reading all the way down here. We know that’s never an easy task on a Friday.
