For the Weekend Warriors, Weirdos & Whackjobs - Issue #111
New year, same bullshit
Hi, hello, and welcome back to your inbox. You shouldn’t even be here. Not now at least. It’s the last of the days in our liminal two-week span where time is a mere suggestion.
But if you must be poking around, I’m glad you’re here. We hope you had a restful holiday, or a Holiday that is at least over now. As a quick reminder, January is still winter, not a moral deadline. You don’t have to fix your life or optimize your habits just because the calendar flipped. Continue to hibernate. Relish in it.
This week, we halted your regular rhythm so we could pause and take a look back at the year. If you missed it, check out our 2025 Year in Review, featuring some of your favourite articles and highlights of our experimental series’ We’ll be back with your regularly scheduled programming next week.
For paid subscribers, in your inbox this morning was Volume 4 of High Spirits, where we make our way from Woodstock to the Tedworth Demon, taking detours along the way to discuss grief, wizards, and candle enzymes.
What Kennedy Recommends:
Documentary | Breakdown: 1975 (Netflix)
I wasn’t so much in the Christmas spirit this year to really enjoy the ol’ classic movies, but I also wasn’t feeling heavy true crime or legal justice docs. I clicked into this one, not thinking too much about it, and was immediately drawn in. This documentary was as aesthetically and nostalgically fun to watch as it was interesting.
In 1975, as America faced social and political upheaval, filmmakers turned the chaos into art. This documentary explores how a turbulent era gave rise to iconic movies like “Taxi Driver,” “All the President’s Men,” and “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.” Commentary from filmmakers, actors and journalists gives the audience insight into how scripts were written and movies were made before the days of identical superhero movies and endless streaming.
Until we’ve recovered from leftover ham and midnight countdowns, that is all. Take it easy.
Love,
Your Bullshit Hunting Crew
