Best of mornings to you all. As always, we hope this email finds you—in whatever form you feel. In the house of bullshit, you come as you are.
This week, we did it all. We worked hard, we worked slow, we took some time to enjoy family and partners, and we sent out a sneak peek of our upcoming fall project, Witchgrass.
Coming this fall, join MJ Banias and Kennedy Chappell as they unearth a case the town seemingly forgot. Following threads from waterlogged archives to redacted police files and shamanic visions, chasing a truth that never made it out of an unlocked apartment.
What We Wrote
This week, we served up two well-loved articles. Well loved by us, that is, made of deep dives and a passion for simply knowing.
Out to all was a Justin and Kennedy original, A Fake Prince, a Game Show Contestant and The Devil. Sometimes, we have to go back to our roots and stay true to our name by really hunting something bullshitty, and this story has it all. Peek inside to discover the strange and offensively comedic roots of one of history’s greatest horror films, The Exorcist.
Hitting inboxes for paid subs this week was the sixth instalment in Commonwealth v. Russ. Some Lawyer digs into court archives to paint a detailed picture of the trial of Oscar Russ. This series brings you both historical intrigue and the writing brilliance of someone who doesn’t stop until the story is told in its entirety.
What Justin Recommends
Book | Sick Houses by Leila Taylor - A deeply researched, and dark look at the architecture of haunted houses. Blending science, gender, and film study, Leila does a fantastic job of analyzing how the notion of ‘home’ can mean different things to different people, and thus their horrors can be unique.
Movie | Belzebuth - A Mexican horror story that follows a detective as he investigates mass murder events that all seem to be linked to the arrival of a tattooed priest, and whispers of demonic possession. A true ass clencher that I thoroughly enjoyed.
That should keep your curiosity fed until next time. In the meantime, close the laptop, stretch a little, and let your mind wander somewhere softer. Brew a cup of something warm, put your feet up, and we’ll be right here waiting when you’re ready.
Until next time,
Your Bullshit Hunting Crew
