Even pirate ships have to dock sometimes. We love floating out here in a sea of fun gigs, but sometimes our heads go down and we sit still as we work through a project of importance together. So, while we wrap up a weighty week, we’re looking to unwind, and we hope you will, too!

Before you wander through this week’s recommendations, have you read Scared? Good!? Justin takes us through a few lessons he’s learned about the role assumptions can play in an investigation, and how you should consider your instincts. Short, "sweet," insightful. Check it out!

What Justin Read This Week

The Kneeling Man by Leta McCollough Seletzky

The Kneeling Man by Leta McCollough Seletzky

It is an iconic photograph.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., lying wounded on the ground, with witnesses and onlookers pointing to the direction from where his fatal shot came. And a man, kneeling over him, trying to save his life.

That man is ‘Mac’, McCollough and the father of the author of this book, Leta. The Kneeling Man is a powerful, vulnerable, complex, riveting, and very personal story. It is a story of a Black man in America, who went from sharecropping to the CIA. And who appeared in that photograph, as an undercover officer for the Memphis Police.

This is really where my words just fail to continue to work properly, dear reader, so out of fear of not doing it fair justice, I do beg of you to read this one. One of the best I’ve read in a long time and will stay with me.

What Kennedy Watched

Campy, bright, acerbic, requires little thought—the perfect Friday flick.

I took myself to see this movie in theatres. I was the only one there, I was in a bad mood, I had nothing but regrets about leaving the house. Until the movie started. It was genuinely fun, well-written, and nostalgic to watch. It has all the elements of popcorn “horrors” that can barely be considered horrors but with the fun modern twist of a teenage girl with genuine autonomy and human interests. Watch it this weekend, or do what I did and add it to your seasonal watch list for the fall!

Thank you to everyone who has subscribed, read, and enjoyed. May this weekend bring relaxation, an enthralling hyper-focus, maybe some outdoor fun for the indoor kids? Or all three! World’s your oyster, baby.

— Much Love From The Bullshit Hunting Crew
