They were the faces we grew up with, from XXX to Saved by the Bell. What many of us wouldn’t have known was some of the true hardship that many of them went through, including Soleil Moon Fry. From a breast reduction surgery to a sexual assault that tore her identity apart. Throughout, I couldn’t help but feel we all, somehow, played a role in these stories—because we really did, and still do, every time we dig up their lives and put them on display. Every time River Phoenix’s final moments are played with his brother desperately calling for help.
We just keep doing it—even when we know all of the harm it has done and continues to do. This is such a moving and important documentary that taught me a lot about a period of time I thought I knew a lot about.
A must-watch for the latchkey kids.
