For the Weekend Warriors, Weirdos & Whackjobs - Issue #113
Weirdest warmest regards
Nothing dramatic, no big tales to tell, just a week that gave us a few things to chew on.
This week, paid subscribers got to read Some Lawyer’s upcoming piece about text messages in litigation. In Where are my keys, I lost my phone, we learn about expectations for digital evidence preservation. Another informative piece from our resident writer with expertise past paranormal books and obituaries.
Out to all was Found Footage: Silver Plume. In this one, Justin takes us on a journey through a mysterious VHS straight from the collection of an exorcist. We explore the dread and unsettling nature of unnamed tapes that terrify even when you can’t quite make out the supposed ghost on screen. A real weirdies original.
High Spirits is on hiatus this week while Kennedy is away, but will return next week. In the meantime, upgrade your subscription to the paid tier for $3.59USD/$5CAD monthly to access the first five episodes, and all other content that lives behind the paywall. As a reminder, when you opt for a paid subscription, you also receive articles a week earlier.
What Kennedy Recommends
Book | Atlas of the Heart by Brené Brown
I love growth, I value wellness, I struggle with self-help books. There’s just something about being softly coddled with words that makes me roll my eyes, and reading harrowing tales of other people’s lives, while necessary and captivating, feels too relative to turn around and apply to my life.
Atlas of the Heart has been an exceptional middle ground of research and storytelling. The book takes you on a journey through eighty-seven emotions and experiences that define what it means to be human. At its core, the book explains how having a richer and more extensive emotional vocabulary gives us the ability not just to explain our experiences but to understand and contextualize others’ experiences in a way that allows us to connect. Something as simple as understanding the tangible difference between stress and overwhelm has been soothing for me.
While the book is available wherever you purchase, I opted for the audiobook. I’ve enjoyed the different ways that Brené sidebars throughout the reading to give us additional thoughts that are not in the written book. Check it out.
Take care out there!
