For the Weekend Warriors, Weirdos & Whackjobs - Issue #125
These emails are truly more reliable than a Toyota Corolla
Usually, I write to you at the end of a Thursday workday with bloodshot laptop eyes and cluttered thoughts, or first thing in the morning on a Friday, pre-espresso. Today, I come to you from a Thursday evening with a warm breeze and Mini Eggs™ (not sponsored) cookies baking in the oven. Scenic, right? Hoping you feel the bliss through osmosis.
As you ease into your weekend, revisit our week in words.
In all inboxes was Exposure Expertise Is Screwing Criminal Defendants and their Appeals, and not to spoil it, but it’s pretty much exactly how it sounds. In this piece, Justin shares his experience as an expert, and how the court struggles to understand the difference between vague familiarity and true capability.
Going out to paid subscribers was The ghost of sanctions yet to come. One of your favourites, Some Lawyer, is back in the fold, painting a picture of a courtroom built on whale oil wealth. A legal system built on citation and proof, which now could be slipping through the cracks. This one asks the dystopian question: What happens when AI hallucinates evidence?
What Kennedy Recommends
Television Show | The Burbs
I wasn’t sure what to expect when a friend recommended The Burbs because, fine, I haven’t seen the OG Tom Hanks movie it’s based on. Sue me. I turned it on while picking away at my diamond art (highly recommend for the not-so-artistic crafters out there), and found myself deeply charmed.
For those who love and miss the light campy horror comedies of the 80s and 90s, think Beetlejuice and The Addams Family, The Burbs hits that sweet spot.
Rob and Samira Fisher move into his childhood home in a quiet suburb, but their fresh start unravels when a mysterious man takes up residence in a long-abandoned house across the street. While on maternity leave, Samira teams up with a group of quirky neighbours to investigate, uncovering dark secrets that threaten their town’s “safest in America” reputation, and her own family and sanity.
Available on Peacock in the US and Stack TV (Amazon Prime) in Canada.
Alright, folks, that’s that on that.
We’re wishing you a weekend of whatever tickles your fancy.
Enjoy, and we’ll meet you on the other side.
