Fuckin’ eh.
As we close out 2024, we’re taking a moment to reflect on everything we've built together, with you, during our first full year of Bullshit Hunting.
Our shared brainchild is and was a culmination of desires, skills, and stories waiting to be told. We didn’t always know what it was going to be, but we knew we hoped to create a space where investigations, truth, and critical thought (can we collectively decide to reclaim this term from whatever political hell it’s become trapped in?) could thrive. Those visions can only become reality with the support of like-minded folks. Your support has not only fuelled our work but encouraged us to dig deeper, ask harder questions, and deliver stories and insights that matter.
From unpacking fraud and uncovering the hidden narratives behind systems of power to holding up a mirror to the absurdities of our world, every investigation, article, and story mix was made possible because of you.
Whether you’ve been with us from day one or just joined the hunt, perhaps you are a partner or friend or one of the many unseen supports that keep us going—your engagement, feedback, and belief have been our greatest drivers.
Let’s take a look back at some of the pieces and posts that hit hardest for you, our fellow hunters, in 2024.
The indelible and multi-talented journalist we’re proud to call a partner,
, crafted a number of Free OSINT Tips that were well-loved. I’ll stick with a crowd favourite worth revisiting—A Free OSINT Lesson: “Google Scholar.”It takes a strong touch to be both morbid and delightful, but
truly always finds a way. Scroll through the backlog and you’ll find tricky rabbit holes and tales of fascinating corpses, but today, we’re spotlighting a beloved post—Are You a Heather? One part man, one part nearly-translucent cryptid,
, was the content machine that kept giving. From investigations, time-lining tips, and personal insights from a formidable career, there’s a lot to choose from. But what resonated with many of you was a recent one that you can turn over, again, to find new edges—The Annoyed Investigators Manifesto.Me,
. A relative newcomer to OSINT who has felt all too appreciated for my beginners insight. You may be too welcoming as a community, which is why it’s no surprise that my 2024 peak was—OSINT For an Actual Dummy. In 2025
We plan to bring you more great guests. This year, we were fortunate to have a contribution from Jared Villery, and we can’t wait to welcome more writers and thinkers into the fold.
You’ll hear more from us with Story Mixes that are already in production. We were proud to launch our first, The Eyes Lie, which you can now stream on Apple and Spotify.
With the hard work of friends of Bullshit Hunting and Permanent Record Research, we also launched Gideon’s Garage, an expert-curated wiki of digital evidence, junk science and public defense information. While free, all signups are carefully vetted.
Thank you for being part of our community and for allowing us to be a part of yours. We’re not going anywhere—we’re far too annoying and incorrigible.
Love,
The Bullshit Hunting Crew
