For the Weekend Warriors, Weirdos & Whackjobs - Issue #128
Halfway through Q2, how we doing?
When the highs are high, they’re untouchable. When the lows are low, well, at least I’m short enough to pick us back up. It was a long week at BSH HQ. The kind of week where words like “justice” and “fairness” start to lose meaning and morph into some secret third thing we can’t quite figure out. Still, we’re ending the week as we always do, with a shit attitude and high hopes.
This week, in all inboxes was The Cult of Productivity. This one was a slightly updated retrospective of an earlier article that examined the legitimacy of productivity culture. A, perhaps, cynical but realistic look at the schedules, experiences, and “hacks” that LinkedIn influencers and thought leaders try to sell us. When I posted this on LinkedIn, I had to wonder, “Are you allowed to say motherfucker on LinkedIn?” Whatever, I don’t want to be there if you can’t.
In paid inboxes was The Ghosts of New Tech. I went for a walk along an empty trail and heard a voice where no one was standing. Later, when I edited a photo from that same walk, there was a figure I hadn’t seen there at all. This one’s about how both our brains and our technology try to make sense of incomplete information. Podcast | Hunting Warhead
I’m just starting this one, so have some grace if it’s not your favourite.
Hunting Warhead is a critically acclaimed, 6-part investigative podcast from CBC Podcasts and Norway's VG newspaper that follows the international investigation to expose "Child's Play," a massive dark web child abuse site. Host Daemon Fairless tracks police, journalists, and survivors to detail how authorities infiltrated the network and arrested its administrator.
Check it out wherever you listen to podcasts.
Rest up. Another week of debauchery awaits us all.
Love,
Your Bullshit Hunting Crew
