A wilderness of scathing indictments
Harnessing a rage-writing demon from a parallel universe, the boss,
rolled out a scathing indictment of: The Cult of Productivity this week. If you’ve been bombarded with things to shove in and up your body in order to gain some peak performance that you never really asked for in the first place? Well then, fellow pirate, this post is for you. It’s a reminder to those that have to constantly filter and cut through the noise everyday: it’s ok to be pissed off, to get tired, and to take naps. You don’t need to ask for anyone’s permission.
What Justin Recommends
The case of Jeffrey MacDonald is one that has been covered by countless YouTube channels, podcasts and legal scholars alike. If you’re lucky enough not to know anything about it, then start with this docuseries: A Wilderness of Error.
The series is based on the book with the same name, by Errol Morris, the legendary author and filmmaker with award-winning works like Fog of War and The Thin Blue Line. Morris has an unapologetic tenacity in digging into the MacDonald case even though many others had already done so. He also has a self-effacing way of saying that he’s just as fucked up as the subjects he’s covered—a bit of honesty not many are willing to divulge.
I really enjoyed this series, it twists, turns and shows a fresh side to the true crime journalist’s life. Go give it a spin.
May the coffee flow freely on a river of reggae this weekend, good people.
Much love,
