For the Weekend Warriors, Weirdos & Whackjobs - Issue #116
You’re still on the weird list, so let’s get right into it.
In all inboxes this week, Justin brought you his latest and greatest: Bringing the Blue Screen of Death to Court. In it, he explores how his days of hacking in Miami prepared him for the tedious job that is discovery review in criminal cases. How reverse-engineering security patches teaches you how to find holes in your case, line by line.
Back to her wicked ways, Some Lawyer delivered a classic into the hands of paid subscribers this week: How to get in to Harvard. There’s really no easy way not to spoil this one, so let’s just say, you’re hunting for a skull. Join in.
If you’re paying to be here, you got High Spirits Volume 8 today, and it was right back to our classic formula of ghosts and giggles. Kennedy shares an article published in the Chicago Tribune in 1991, featuring psychic research and stubborn poltergeists. Justin goes back into the Warren files for some modern vampirism.
What Kennedy Recommends
We try to keep it a bit more granular around here, giving recommendations we think are vaguely on theme. This one is more of a shot in the dark.
From the creator of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, Pluribus.
I threw this on one day, didn’t pay attention, turned it off. Another day, I got snowed in, turned it on, and watched six episodes in one sitting. I loved it.
Pluribus follows Carol Sturka, one of only 13 people in the world immune to the effects of the "Joining", an event in which an extraterrestrial virus transforms the rest of humanity into a peaceful and content hive mind. The hive mind happily accommodates the wishes of those who remain unaffected, but admits that it will ultimately assimilate them when it learns how to do so. Carol, miserable and maybe a bit drunk, has to learn how to navigate a world that seemingly adores her even if it seeks to destroy her.
That’s all she wrote this week, folks.
Until next time, take it sleazy.
